Discipline Plan Students in first grade are expected to have appropriate classroom behavior. Within our grade, we have three basic rules to ensure a safe learning environment. 1. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 2. Respect all adults, students, and property. 3. Follow all directions and procedures.
To help children keep track of their behavior, we use a behavior clip chart. Each child will have a clip on the clip chart with his/her number on it.
Purple- Outstanding Green- Ready to Learn - You will get to start out each day on Ready to Learn. You will move your clip up or down depending on your choices each day. Blue- 1st Warning- If you receive a warning, you will move your clip down to help you remember to think about your choices. Yellow- 2nd Warning Think about it - If you receive a warning, you will move your clip down to help you remember to think about your choices. Orange - Think About It - If you continue to make poor choices, you will have a seat change or silent lunch . Red- Parent Contact - If you still choose to make bad decisions, you will have Parent Contacted.

Homework Homework folders will go home daily Your child should read 20 minutes each night. Please sign the reading chart telling the title of book(s) and how many minutes he/she has read on the back of the behavior chart. I would really like for your child to read during this reading time, rather than you reading to him/her. The LetterLand spelling and math homework will be sent home once a week. Fluency passages will be sent home. Parents will time how long it takes for students to read it each night. Please sign the fluency sheet every night.
School Hours The school day begins at 9:15 AM and ends at 4:15 PM. Students may arrive at school between 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM. If students arrive at school after 9:15 AM, they will be marked tardy.
Early Dismissal If you plan to pick your child up early, please notify me ahead of time. This way we can prepare your child with the necessary work he/she will miss. The last early dismissal is 3:30 PM. If you pick up your child before 12:30 PM, it is considered an absence. Please go straight to the office when picking up your child. They will notify me personally.
Alternate Transportation I will dismiss your child as indicated on the transportation forms unless you have informed me otherwise. On the day your child will be going home an alternative way, please notify me via note or e-mail. Just telling your child will not suffice. If there is a change, I am required to receive written notice. It is for your own child's safety.
Tardies/Absences Students are considered tardy if they arrive at school after the 9:15 AM bell. Students arriving after 9:15 AM should check in at the office for a tardy slip before coming to class. Students who are absent are required to bring a note from the parent or guardian (you may also send me an e-mail). If a note is not received, your child will receive an unexcused absence. Sickness, family emergencies, and religious holidays are considered excused absences. If you know that your child will be absent, please make me aware of this ahead of time. Then I can prepare your child with the necessary assignments and materials that will be missed. This will help keep your child connected with the pace of the class. In cases of extended absence, please arrange to come pick up daily assignments.
Room Temperature Sometimes the children may get cold in our classroom. Please send a sweater or a light jacket with your child if he/she is cold-natured.
